August 1, 2011
Jessica Hardy of the United States won the women’s 50 meters breaststroke title to stop Rebecca Soni’s attempt at sweeping all three breaststroke golds at the world swimming championships on Sunday.
Hardy clocked 30.19 seconds to win gold ahead of Yuliya Efimova of Russia who took silver in 30.49, while Soni claimed the bronze in 30.58.
She also won the title in the same event at her last World Championships in 2007. She got the silver in the same event in 2005.
Jessica also swam the 50m freestyle less than 15 minutes after competing in the 50 breaststroke, and finished in 8th place.
She leaves Shanghai with a gold and silver medal (from the 4×100 free relay).
